DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction.
The purpose of a deep-tissue massage is to loosen the fibres of a muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of muscular tension; it is often focused on more specific areas rather than the whole body. This type of massage will help reduce pain, reduce injury recovery time, improve mobility, improve blood, lymph and oxygen circulation, reduce scar tissue and other myofascial adhesions which can impair both circulatory and nerve function At certain points during the massage there can be some discomfort and pain, however this is only brief and will always be within your comfort range
MASSAGE FOR INJURIES
You will often see therapists advertising massage for sports injuries but of course injuries don't just occur during sporting activities they can also occur during our everyday lives. Whether its doing too much computer work, carrying the children, lifting heavy suitcases, gardening or simply hauling the shopping bags home, they can all contribute to a weakness and subsequent injury; as can overdoing it in the gym or any other sporting activity that you do. Massage helps recovery from soft tissue injuries by increasing circulation to the injured muscular tissue. Increasing circulation accelerates tissue growth and repair, decreasing recovery time.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before and after athletic events. The purpose of sports massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance.
Sports massage can help prevent or reduce those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger.
Because this massage is tailored to suit individual athletic events or sports each massage will vary and focus on different areas of the body.
MYOFASCIAL TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy involves the applying of pressure to tender areas located within a muscle. Pressure to theses areas can help relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body.
Trigger points can exist in two states, either active or latent. Active trigger points cause muscular pain and refer pain, tingling or numbness to other areas of the body when pressure is applied. In this case the therapist works on the trigger point rather than on the site of pain. Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when compressed; they do not refer pain to other areas of the body.
RELAXATION/SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure. Long flowing strokes, kneading, friction and shaking motions are used to promote relaxation, soothe tired muscles and revitalise the body and mind. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to calm and relax and should be incorporated into a regular stress management program. So come in and see us at the end of your busy week!
PRENATAL MASSAGE
Prenatal massage can be performed at any stage during the pregnancy and offers relief from common conditions such as peripheral swelling, insomnia, muscle cramping, back pain, sciatic pain and relieves the strain on weight-bearing joints.
Prenatal massage combines the relaxing, flowing strokes of Swedish massage and the firmer therapeutic pressure of remedial massage. It is usually performed with the client lying on her side but at our Double Bay practice we have a prenatal massage table. This massage table is designed to accommodate the baby and allow the mother to lie face down, pure bliss in the later stages of pregnancy. Of course, if preferred, mother can always be massaged lying on her side
POSTNATAL MASSAGE
This is a time when a new mother can relax and be indulged. The trauma on the body during pregnancy and labour often leaves the body feeling tight and tender especially in the lower back, neck and shoulders. Postural corrections the spine has undergone during pregnancy and the pressure on the upper body when feeding can result in stress and strain on the muscles.
Massage will ease the muscle tension allowing them to relax, repair and cope with the challenges of motherhood.
MASSAGE FOR CHILDREN
Our young ones are more active than ever, in body and in mind. The carrying of heavy school bags and feeling the effects of stress at exam time can take a toll on their well-being. Children participate in many physical activities, and although many children naturally perform well in sports and can play physical games with ease, their bodies may experience muscle pain, tightness or limitations in range of motion. Teaching children to manage stress and body awareness while they are young can help prevent a lifetime of chronic pain and poor habits.
Through the use of massage we may comfort pains, decrease potential injury, increase agility and improve sleep
All our therapists hold a working with children certificate
